La Tèr i oubli pa (The Earth Does Not Forget) takes root in a residency carried out at the Cité des Arts of La Réunion in 2023, with the support of La Semeuse. This project continues the work of memory and landscape developed by Réunionese artist Wendy Therméa, through an installation inspired by a local oral myth.

In Éko Sakré dann Montann, Wendy Therméa calls upon the invisible forces of La Réunion, an island deeply marked by myths and beliefs. The work draws on the myth of Mario, a runaway slave who, fleeing a cruel master, found refuge in a sacred cave under the protection of the Black Madonna. The statuette of the Madonna he carried with him brought about a miracle: bougainvillea suddenly grew, blocking the entrance to his hiding place and protecting Mario from the hunters. This story has become a symbol of resistance, a link between nature, spirituality, and the memory of past struggles.

Through this installation, Wendy creates a living sanctuary where nature becomes a metaphor for divine protection. The work unites matter and plant life to offer an immersive experience that invites poetic contemplation. The presence of dried bougainvillea and the breath of sound give rise to a sacred and intimate space, a threshold between the visible and the invisible.

The work unfolds as a poetic act of resistance, where the memory of maroon slaves and the strength of nature converge in a dialogue between myth and matter, earth and the divine.
